Pretty, Pretty: Prada Infusion d'Iris

By Tom

Neiman Marcus is having their beauty event, where I stock up on Kiehls and come away with a (slightly tacky IMHO) tote and a bunch of samples. The 2007 release from Prada was the scent sample. I don't know what I was expecting since the Prada line of fashion I find rather severe and the nylon luggage I find laughably overpriced. Vuitton canvas is crazy expensive too, but it has some history.

The scent however is a winner: sweet, clean, powdery in the opening and warm woods in the drydown. I can't say that it's groundbreaking, or even that I would wear it myself since it's a little frilly on me but I can certainly see it as a lovely scent for late summer/ early fall when it's hot or an olfactory version of a full spectrum light-box for the winter blahs. A few splashes of this couldn't help but lift the spirits...

In various sizes from $65 for 1.6oz up to $360 for a whopping 25oz at Neiman Marcus, et al.

That was a slightly tacky tote, I have to say. But I got mine without having to buy anything because the SA remembered me coming in and plopping down a bundle for some Attrape Coeur before the bags were available.

I have never warmed up to this Prada, or any of them, actually, but now that I have an actual sample I'll give it a go. So many people love it. I just tried Santa Maria Novella Iris and am in love with it; don't think this will blow that one off the map.

Yes, a lot of people seem to love this one. Thanks for your take...it might actually tip the scales in favor of my trying it.

Re: the model in the photo. Are we to believe she is applying fragrance with her gloves on? :-D

I'd love to find a fragrance that's affordable to displace Irisss from near the top of my list. Perhaps Infusion d'Iris will be the one. You've inspired me to give it a go!
Thanks, Tom.

Iris is the one note I've identified as making a fragrance smell expensive and "classy" to me, but I didn't really get much of anything at all from this one. I probably didn't use enough, as I'm afraid of bothering those around me, but this seemed sort of meh, to me. I think I might be somewhat anosmic to this line.

Tama-

That's a nice SA!

I don't think it will blow anything off the map...

It's nice. If a place carrying it's convenient to you give it a try. I wouldn't buy unsniffed or travel miles for it.

Tammy-

It may that you just didn't like it. It's not hugely iris, not rooty at all.

There are now 2 Prada Infusion d'Iris versions available. The first release was the Ed"P" back in 2007. I did not care for it at all. It was kind of heavy and very dusty/rooty on me.

Fast forward to the sample I recently recv'd in my Neiman beauty bag of the latest version in ED"T". I love it! It's lighter and brighter and so perfect!

Just wanted to make sure you are commenting on the EdT. There's a big difference between the two. I'm excited for the EdT. I think it will sell really well. I already bought a big bottle of it and can't stay away from it. :)

This (the EdP anyway) is my very favorite perfume to wear to the movies. If the movie is boring, it's interesting and shifty enough to be fun to sniff; if the movie's interesting, it's quiet enough to let me enjoy; all in all, it's tender enough that my movie date can snuggle me up without getting his snoot in an uproar. Perfect! I loved the EdP and really MUST smell the EdT, because I think it's going to make me happier still.

Tom, I like this too, which kind of surprised me; I did not expect such a good fragrance from this line.

Ducks, I love your perfume logic! :-)

"interesting and shifty enough to be fun to sniff"

That's a great way of putting it!

It really grew on me over time; it's popular in our area as an office scent. I think I need a bottle! If you can smell the difference in the Pour Homme version you've a better nose than I have.

I didn't even know there was a pour homme. Guess I'll have to stop by the 5th floor at NM and give it a sniff
