Eau Dear, it gets worse: Cartier de Lune

By Tom

I don't quite know what to do with this one. It's supposed to be picking white blooms under the full moon, etc. It's a rosy something-or-other that I might find forgivable if it were coming from a drugstore and cost $20. But really, Cartier? I've had richer, more satisfying, more successful rose scents from Dow.

$75.00 for 1.5 oz at Sephora. My sample was a gift with purchase.

I'm pretty sure we can do better that that at the drugstore. But I'm just not a very forgiving person, you know.

Did Mathilde Laurent do this one? If so, how sad, she's such an amazing talent, I can only guess this time she was severely restrained by a focus group (what an image!).

Did Mathilde use a "ghost-perfumer" on this one??

I agree - disappointed in this one. Seems to be the latest trend - clean, nothing scents! Guessing this was not ML's choice. Really don't like this genre. I recently tried the new Aqua Allegoria, Jasminora, and it's also a clean, harsh LoTV/jasmine thing, similar to Idylle EDT and the Cartier. Looking forward to ML's next one - Baiser Vole. Supposed to be a lily fragrance. Hoping it's more compelling than this one!

Gaia-

Some things are unforgivable.

Marla-

Yes, she is the perfumer. I suppose she was handed a brief and did her best. I just really don't like the result.

Alex-

I assume she was focus-grouped into it.

Karin-

I know she's a talented perfumer so I assume the blame is on Cartier, which is why I didn't name her.

I have continued high hopes that we will see (smell?) great things from her in future.

yes, steer by this one, and go straight for les heures, which are much more rewarding!

maybe this one is for people who don't know or like perfume? dunno!

cheers,
minette

What a huge disconnect there is between Cartier's exclusive line and their department store scents. I can't think of anything I dislike more than Roadster, cold metal and bug spray, but some of the Les Heures sound just fabulous.
